Day 2/11

Pursue pleasure. And jumps.

I decided to start by figuring out why I feel the need of using jumps. The best way to figure that out is to start working with jumps. My physical condition at this point doesn’t allow me to jump, so I have to rely on imagination and the memory of how it feels to jump. For this I wanted to find some music that would provide me a feeling of small jumps. I couldn’t find anything inspiring. I basically just lost several hours of precious time listening to all sorts of music – coming out with absolutely nothing. I even listened to LMFAO – Sexy and I know it. Already starting to realize the luxury of working in a rehearsal space together with dancers that can try out my ideas.

To not get stuck already, I decided to skip the idea of the music and just go with my imagination. And pen and paper. So I started drawing different combinations of small jumps on paper.

Trying at the same time to figure out how to incorporate pleasure in these jumps. What kind of jumps, in what kind of rhythm could possibly open up for feeling pleasure? When I was a kid I found pleasure in jumping; trampoline, skipping rope, different games with jumps and also just skipping around instead of walking. Maybe here Is a key I can use?

I still cannot answer the question why I need these jumps. But I do know why the task of pursuing pleasure is so important – pursuing pleasure in whatever you are doing opens you up, frees you, and of course – it feels nice. So maybe I just want to revisit the pleasure of jumping I felt as a kid? And sharing it with the dancers and the audience?
